With so many options available, it is becoming very challenging to decide the right mobile device to buy, which will also suit you.

Here are 8 important features that you need to consider before buying a smartphone or tablet.

  1. Screen Size: Visual experience play a very important role in determining the quality of a product. This makes screen size a major feature to look for when buying either smartphone or a tablet. A perfect screen to some extent can overshadow the defects in a model. Screen is also the single most expensive and important hardware component in a smartphone and tablets. Consider the following attributes when choosing a mobile device based on the screen: size, resolution and viewing angles.

  2. Thickness and Weight: This is another important factor to be considered when buying a smartphone or tablet. Thickness is more of an aesthetic concern than anything else. Thinner devices don't always lead to a quality product. So it's up to you to decide if you want to sacrifice quality over aesthetic value. Some smartphones and tablets come in a metallic casing, which gives a quality look to the device. So be sure to check it out in a store, rather than getting disappointed after buying the device.

  3. Operating System: The OS of a smartphone or tablet is yet another major feature to be considered before you make a purchase. When it comes to OS, there are different options to go for, like Apple's iOS, Microsoft Windows OS or the open source Linux. Windows OS is the winner here since it is very user friendly and got a huge choice of supporting applications and software to go with the OS. Similarly, smartphones and tablets also run on different operating systems like Android OS, iOS, Microsoft Phone 7, Blackberry OS, webOS, Symbian etc. iOS is used only in Apple phones and tablets. Android OS is very popular and used in a wide range of models. Even though Windows phones are not as popular as Android, their user friendliness and popularity is slowly capturing the smartphone and tablet OS market.

  4. Storage Space: Most smartphone and tablet manufacturers these days are offering as high as 16GB storage capacity which is enough space for storing photos, songs and videos. However some users like to add additional memory to increase the storage capacity. Devices like iPhones don't come with memory slots, but other smartphones comes with memory slots for additional memory.

  5. Connection Specifications: All tablets and smartphones are portable devices which need wireless connections for communication. Devices with Wi-Fi connectivity let you connect wirelessly to home and public networks. However, some models offer 3G, 4G connectivity which helps in having an Internet connection enabled SIM cards. These versions are generally expensive than the normal models and in order to enable 3G or 4G connectivity, you need to sign a contract with the service providers. Fortunately, the prices are coming down and it is now affordable to have a 3G or 4G in your smartphone or tablet.

  6. Apps Compatibility: One of the important feature of a smartphone or tablet is the presence of Apps. It is similar to using application software on your PC. Compatibility of apps is very important to be considered when you buy a smartphone or table. For instance, Apple's App Store has about 300,000 free and premium apps available. Android's Play Store also have 250,000 free and premium apps. Other mobile OS also have apps available, but limited in number compared to iOS and Android. The more number of apps available, the more options for you to find and install the right apps for your needs.

It is a very useful feature especially when you are looking forward for recording memories and spur-of-the-moment events. These days, some mobile devices come with cameras that possess resolutions as high as 13 megapixels or more. If you are not particular about capturing moments or taking selfies, you can go for models without a camera or camera with low resolutions to save some cash.

To see the real quality of the recorded video, one will definitely want to try it on a bigger screen connecting to display monitors or television.
