5 signs you're successful, even if you don't think so

There are a few people who do not have any idea what success is or how it feels. If you fall into this unique group of people, here are five signs to watch for.

Fear can derail success and that's why we have to face our fears to achieve success.

There is no denying that the whole idea of success is very relative, depending on who you're talking to. Some people see success as the accumulation of material or monetary wealth, others see it as good relationships with friends and family. And so on.

But there are a few people who do not have any idea what success is or how it feels. If you fall into this unique group of people, here are five signs to watch for if you want to know whether you're successful or not:

You're no longer the center of the universe.

True success requires the ability to empathize - to understand that other people's feelings and dreams are just as important as yours.

You remain positive.

Hope and optimism are important parts of a happy life. Real success means you are always seeing the bright side and believing that you have the power to make even the worst situations better.

You understand that failure isn't forever.

You have come to the realisation that the only people who don’t fail are those who don't try. When failure comes knocking, you don’t automatically see yourself as a failure. Instead, you embrace each failure as an opportunity to learn from your mistakes - and then move on.

You never lose perspective.

Sometimes, bad things happen, even to good people. However, for some people your worst day will seem like a vacation to people who have real problems. Not being able to afford a car or rent a plush apartment in Lekki seems like a trip when there are people who don't even have enough to eat, or are trying to survive a civil war. Once you learn to develop perspective, and see things for what they are, then that is a mark of huge success.

You ask for help when you need it.

Refusing to ask for help, no matter how much you may need it, is a sign of emotional maturity, and such cannot be attributed to success. Asking for help means you realize you cannot do it all alone and you no longer have anything to prove by being perfect. It means you are not afraid to show your weaknesses and understand that no man is an island.

There is no point in feeling like a failure just because you cannot afford a Benz, a better job, or a bigger house. Real success comes from the inside and it has nothing to do with circumstance.
