Meet the founder and CEO of iROKOtv

The success of NollywoodLove on YouTube led to a successful investment from US-based hedge fund Tiger Global

iROKO Partners Founder and CEO, Jason Njoku

Jason Njoku is the CEO and Founder of Iroko Partners, the largest distributors of Nigerian movies, with a library of over 5000 licensed movies.

Iroko Partners comprises five web brands – iROKOtv, iROKING, iROKtv, NollywoodLove and YorubaLove.  Njoku is building a very modern digital distribution infrastructure using Amazon Web services, Ooyala and several other video ad networks to service the second largest movie industry (by volume) in the world – the Nigerian movie industry, also known as Nollywood.

Panda Daily’s Sarah Lucy reports that last year, Iroko did eight million YouTube streams a month, with a $1 million revenue run rate. The success of NollywoodLove on YouTube led to a successful investment from US-based hedge fund Tiger Global, who led a two round funding amounting to $8 million, making it one of the biggest single investments in a West African internet venture. Another investment of about $2 million then followed again in July 2012 led by Swedish-based hedge fund Kinnevik.

Njoku founded Iroko Partners with Bastian Gotter in December 2010 with headquarters in Anthony village, Lagos, Nigeria. He then launched iROKOtv, which is now the largest legal distributor of African movies in the world, on 1st December 2011.
