According to various media reports, retailers in China are reporting over 3.4 million pre-orders being placed with them for Apple's latest smartphone.

iPhone SE

Although Apple's newly launched iPhone SE is yet to be released to the public, the general dismissiveness of consumers towards the cheapest iPhone ever doesn't seem to carry into the Chinese market.

According to various media reports, retailers in China are reporting over 3.4 million pre-orders being placed with them for Apple's latest smartphone, even though its only in its fifth day of pre-sales.

This would go to suggest that the phone might actually do way better than analysts are projecting, smaller screen and throwback design aside.

The CNBC reports that its was able to gather some pre-order traffic numbers in the country via authorized online retailers.

JD.com says it has 882,295 pre-orders, Suning quotes 1,709, 427 while Gome, the last of the authorized retailers checked by CNBC, reports 889,668.

Going by color, the Gold-colored iPhone SE is the most popular with 1.3 million orders in total, followed by the Rose Gold version with 1.2 million pre-orders.

The iPhone SE will be released in the US, China, and many other countries on Thursday, March 31.
