Instagram users, celebrities lose millions of followers

Hundreds of Instagram users are already losing millions of followers as the photo sharing app carries out #Instapurge to get rid of fake and spammy accounts.

True to Instagram's warning, a lot of fake and spammy accounts have been deleted from the social networking app.

Tons of account users lost a great deal of followers, with one person even dropping from 3.6 million to 8!

Celebrities like Beyonce, 50 Cent, Bruno Mars, Akon, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, among others, were also hard hit.

Even Instagram's official account lost about 19 million followers.

While some angry users bombarded the photo sharing app's official account with profanities, other called for people to stop using the service.

In the meantime, the Instagram clean-up exercise which has been dubbed #Instapurge, is still on.
