The Huawei Y3 is a dual-sim smartphone sporting Android KitKat 4.4 out of the box.

Chinese tech giant, Huawei, launched a new entry-level phone, which it says was specifically built for the Nigerian market, yesterday.

Huawei has been making in-roads into the Nigerian smartphone market and with the new device, the Huawei Y3, it might just overtake all other competitors in the segment. At the launch, Huawei announced that a partnership between the company, Etisalat and online retailer Konga, with each partner offering very impressive deals on the device.

Huawei entered the Nigerian market sometime last year with the Ascend Mate 7, a sleek looking high-end device that will definitely rub shoulders with the biggest competitors in its segment. However, as the company realised apparently, the core of the Nigerian market is not high-end based so it decided to develop a phone specially aimed at the average Nigerian user, according to Huawei head in Nigeria, Mr. House Yangfufu.

The Huawei Y3 is a dual-sim smartphone that comes with Android KitKat 4.4 out of the box, a 4.0-inch capacitive touch screen with 480x800 pixel resolution, 1.3GHz Quad-Core Processor supported by a 512MB RAM and 4GB ROM, and a LCD WVGA display screen which the company say is coated with scratch-resistant glass.

Huawei raises the game a notch higher through its partnership with Konga, who will be delivering each unit of the phone purchased for free, according to founder, Sim Shagaya, as well as Etisalat, who will provide 1GB of data for each unit at N1000.

According to Huawei, the Y3 will retail for N12, 900 and is already available on Konga and in retail stores nationwide.
