US Presidential candidate under pressure to turn in email server after scandal persists

Republicans have pressured Clinton to turn over her private server, either to federal authorities or an independent arbiter, for months.

US Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton has been unable to shake off the email scandal which has plagued her campaign

The US State Department said Tuesday that the inspector general for the intelligence community rated two classified emails found on her server to be of "Top Secret" nature, one of the most sensitive classifications given to data.

John Kirby, State Department spokesman, said the emails under review were forwarded to Clinton's private email address in 2009 and 2011.

"While we work with the Director of National Intelligence to resolve whether, in fact, this material is actually classified, we are taking steps to ensure the information is protected and stored appropriately," Kirby said in a statement.

"It's about time," said John Boehner (R-Ohio), House Speaker. "Secretary Clinton's previous statements that she possessed no classified information were patently untrue. Her mishandling of classified information must be fully investigated."

Last month, The New York Times reported that the intelligence community's inspector general were asking the Justice Department to look into the issue surrounding the scandal.

So far, Clinton's camp has handed in thousands of emails for review. Clinton, on the other hand has repeatedly said she broke no laws or rules by forgoing a standard government email account for the private account. She has also said that she is "confident" she did not send or receive classified information by email during her tenure as secretary of state.
