Social media site makes provision for kids with new feature

For the first time, children below age 13 can now have an official presence on Facebook with a new feature, Scrapbook, that allows parents create a special collection of photos for their kids.

Facebook

Scrapbook is not a profile in itself but it will allow parents keep track of their babies unforgettable moments, and milestones, the photos they choose to tag can be shared with friends and partner’s friends.

Scrapbook simply helps to get photos of your little one all in one place and makes childhood more accessible to kids after they have grown.

Dan Barak, Facebook Scrapbook product manager said, “Everyone who’s on Facebook should control their own identity,” So, when the kids are grown and do not want to get laughed at by their friends, they can as well remove it or they can make it more public.”

Users can create a Facebook Scrapbook from their About page on the social media network.

There is an option to start a scrapbook from scratch or make one for an existing child.

Users can also choose to co-own the scrapbook with their spouse, which enables them both tag photos in the Scrapbook and get notifications. Users can also change the Scrapbook’s privacy settings as desired.

Scrapbook is exclusive to US for now on iOS, Android and desktop platforms, hopefully it will be available to all Facebook users around the globe soon.
