Generating business leads on LinkedIn - Part 2

Every time you share update or a post, your message — as well as a link to your profile — appears in everyone’s news feed.

LinkedIn allows users to “Share an update,” which is usually a short comment with a link to an interesting article, but it also allows users to write up long-form blog posts via the “Publish a post” feature. Every time you share update or a post, your message — as well as a link to your profile — appears in everyone’s news feed. It establishes yourself as an expert, gets your profile more views, and might spark a conversation with a new client.

But you don’t have to stop there. Viveka von Rosen, a LinkedIn expert and author of LinkedIn Marketing: An Hour a Day, says company pages can be a great vehicle for generating business leads as well. Many company pages are abandoned once they’ve been built. But they’re a free way to reinforce your branding and share updates with an audience who follows your page.

Once you’ve created a business page, von Rosen recommends sharing it with your mailing list and explaining why you’ll be a great company to follow. A themed series, such as “10 ways to share content” where you share one tip per day is just one example of a way to encourage followers and spark conversation. “Give real value. Create an editorial calendar. Be thoughtful. Be strategic,” von Rosen says. “Maybe even create a contest — there are no rules against it!”
