FG sacks NBC DG, 5 others

It is unclear why the FG has decided to part ways with the parastatal heads, especially since the Minister gave no reason for the sackings.

According to multiple media reports, the Federal Government today sacked the heads of six information-related parastatals under the Ministry of Information and Culture.

The sacked heads were also directed to hand over to the most senior officials in their respective institutions, according to the reports.

The development was announced by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture, during a meeting he held with the chief executives of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Voice of Nigeria (VON), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

The sacked heads of the parastatals are Mr. Sola Omole, DG NTA; Mr. Ladan Salihu, DG FRCN; Mr. Sam Worlu, DG VON; Mr. Mike Omeri, NOA; Mr. Emeka Mba, DG NBC; and Mr. Ima Niboro, managing director, NAN.

Nigerian CommunicationsWeek reports that the minister, in a statement issued by his special assistant, Segun Adeyemi, thanked the sacked heads for their service to the nation and wished them well in their future endeavours.

It is unclear why the FG has decided to part ways with the parastatal heads, especially since the Minister gave no reason for the sackings.

The Buhari administration touted information technology as one of the sectors of the economy which it planned to develop extensively and this may be a move in that direction.
