Various media reports have revealed that the world’s third largest PC maker, Dell Inc., is in talk to buy data Storage Company EMC Corp. in what could be the largest merger in tech for the last decade.

A deal could be a veritable option for EMC, who has been under pressure from activist investors to spin off its majority owned VMware Inc.

However, Reuters reports that Dell could also be in talks with banks to finance an all cash offer for EMC. Dell spokesman David Flink and EMC spokesman Dave Farmer have both declined to comment since the news broke.

A deal of this kind would further strengthen Dell’s presence in the enterprise computing market, something CEO and founder Michael Dell, has been trying to do for the past couple of years following in the footsteps of the likes of HP and IBM.

The talks come two years after Founder Michael Dell and private-equity firm Silver Lake took Dell private for $24.9 billion, ending the company’s run as one of the largest publicly traded PC makers in the world.
