Communication Firm Offers Solution To Data Shortage

A Nigerian communication company has come up with a solution to help curb the data shortage experienced by subscribers.

Internet data users will soon heave a sigh of relief as Smile Communication has introduced a new value offering for customers that will enable them experience real broadband services.

The company said that the solution would help counteract unnecessary data depletion, while using the Internet, thus enabling customers to work longer while browsing.

It said data depletion had become a key concern to it because customers ran out of data easily.

It, therefore, said that it had introduced news features to counteract unnecessary data depletion to ameliorate this major concern and help boost broadband penetration in line with the objectives of the Nigerian National Broadband Plan.

The Chief Corporate Services Officer of Smile Communications, Lee-Ann Cassie, said excellent customer service is the main motivation for the introduction of the Blocking Buttons and Speed Control.

For Blocking Buttons, she disclosed that the company had "identified four categories of websites that consume a lot of data and created buttons that once activated will block access to these websites."

Among the websites identified as the major causes of data depletion due to unprompted downloads and updates are cloud storage, automatic update, video streaming and bit torrenting.

Cassie explained that through the features that are accessible on the Smile customer portal, customers could visit any of the sites while Smile, through this innovation, will enable them "to select their own download speed at anytime."

She said the overall aim remained the desire to encourage customers to optimise the huge Smile network capacity that abound in the Nigerian market as well as maximise all possible and accruing benefits while on the Smile network.
