Big Data University was launched in 2015 and it offers free courses on big data and databases. Each course is followed by a knowledge assessment exam of sorts, and if a student passes it, they earn a certificate of achievement from IBM which they can show at their next job interview.
According to Innovation Village, two developers from Andela joined IBM in January to build the new Big Data University site and course management platform, with an additional two on-boarding this month.
In a recent report, Glassdoor revealed that data science is the most lucrative career in the tech industry. According to the report, a Data Scientist in the US earns an average of $116,000 per year and there are over 1,700 open jobs.
It makes sense when you consider that businesses of all kinds are overloaded with incredible amounts of data and data scientists are needed to sift through the mess and unearth insights that could empower smart business decisions.
