Teens and youths from 17 African countries will be getting coding lessons

The event is aimed at equipping 20,000 children and youth with coding skills, regardless of their prior knowledge of computers.

Africa Code Week will be holding across 17 countries of the African continent, including Nigeria.

Details on this year’s edition of the Africa Code Week has been announced. The competition will be holding from the 1st to the 10th of October 2015 and it will be held in 17 countries across the continent of Africa.

With a mission to “empower future generations with the coding tools and skills they need to thrive in the 21st century workforce and become key actors of Africa’s economic development”, the event is aimed at equipping 20,000 children and youth with coding skills, regardless of their prior knowledge of computers.

Lots of playful coding workshops will be organized for three different age groups (8-11, 12-17, 18-24) at the event, and the participants will get to know that “coding is fun and it can open many doors in your life”.

The workshops will run with the help of school and university teachers, coding trainers’, want-to-be trainers and professional coders across the 17 countries and will take place either in a school, university science centre or community centre close to the participants.

The countries listed to host the event include Angola, Benin, Botswana, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Seychelles, South Africa, Togo and Tunisia.
