The Lagos Social Media Week (SMW) 2015 has officially thrown its portal open for registration of interested participants. This year's edition of the event will take place from 23 to 27 February.

The theme for this year's SMW is 'Upwardly Mobile: The Rise of A Connected Africa'.

According to an official statement from the organizers, "The connected class is an emerging subset of our global society defined by those with access and connectivity. Today there are 3 billion of us. By 2022 there will be 6 billion. Through the exploration of the Upwardly Mobile theme we want to ask the fundamental question: how can all humans achieve more in a connected world?

"The Connected Class will include more than 75 percent of the global population, and together they will determine how the world is organized, how businesses function and the design of our urban environments

"Upwardly Mobile will be a year long examination of how technology will impact that way we live, work and create in a connected world, and how new ideas, innovations and break-through technologies will lead to meaningful changes in our lives."

The SMW is a week long conference that takes place in cities around the world and it seeks to share ideas on how social media and technology is affecting the world. The global event was first introduced to Nigeria in 2013.
