These are the countries with the highest ratio of super-entrepreneurs

Surprisingly, Hong Kong and Israel top the list of countries with the highest percentage of billionaires. This has been linked to low taxes and low regulation in these countries.

Billionaire club

Super-entrepreneurs are great assets to any country. Besides making a lot of money for themselves, they also contribute significantly to economic growth through innovation and job creation.

While there are super-entrepreneurs in virtually every country, there seems to a be a eco-system in some countries that stimulates the emergence of those super-entrepreneurs. According to a recent report by the Centre for Policy Studies in London, Hong Kong has the highest number of billionaires per million people, (with about 2.8 billionaires per million people).

Israel takes the second spot with about 1.7 billionaires per million people, followed by the United States, Switzerland, and Singapore in third, fourth, and fifth places, respectively.

To arrive at the final figures, the authors of the report analyzed Forbes’ list of the world's richest people from 1996 to 2010 and identified about 1,000 super-entrepreneurs from 53 countries. They regarded a super-entrepreneur as a business person who has earned at least $1 billion after starting with self-made wealth. Therefore, the list excluded those who had become super-rich after inheriting a fortune.

Norway, Ireland, Taiwan, Canada, and Australia occupy the next five positions to round out the top ten countries with the highest number of billionaires per one million people.

The report also reveals a direct relationship between the number of billionaires per million people and factors such as low taxes and low regulation.

However, no correlation was found between the number of government programs to support entrepreneurship and the percentage of super-entrepreneurs.
