Court stops AIT from airing damaging documentary on APC candidate

The court also barred the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and other stations under the control of the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON) from further airing the documentary.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has restrained Africa Independent Television (AIT) from airing a damaging documentary on the Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yemi Osinbajo.

The court also barred the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and other stations under the control of the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON) from further airing the documentary.

The order was made by Justice James Tsoho in granting a plea presented by Osinbajo’s lawyer, Femi Falana.

Osinbajo had contended that the documentaries were based on lies and were a personal attack on him because he had been viewed as a threat to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The APC candidate also argued that the airing of the clips were in violation of his rights to dignity of the human person, right to privacy and family virtue and right to life and/or livelihood.

AIT has also aired such documentaries on APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu and Presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

Tinubu, in response, demanded N20 billion in damages from the network but AIT issued a counter-demand of N100 billion.
