Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike leads street protest

Wike made the comment on Sunday, December 18, during a victory thanksgiving service held by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Port Harcourt.

"The police cannot deliberately murder Rivers people in cold blood and turn around to investigate,” he said.

“We are not a party to their so-called panel. We have passed that stage and we cannot fall into the trap of a panel of inquiry. After killing our people, you want us to assist you unravel what? It is the police that killed our people.

“They are accusing you that you are the ones killing our people, you are now saying that the Rivers state government should give you assistance.

“Which assistance have we not given? We told you that you appointed policemen who will interfere with the election process. We told you that you have appointed policemen to those people who are contesting election you refused to say anything.

“Now you are asking the Rivers state Government to come and assist you. Assist you to do what?” he added.

Wike had earlier led a protest against police brutality in the state and called for the redeployment of two officers who he accused of participating in electoral fraud.
