Senate, Reps. reportedly divide over details of 2016 budget

Sources said that most Senators and Reps were only given a summary of the budget and attempts to have the details failed all week.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Reps. Dogara

Nation Newspaper reports that just like President Muhammadu Buhari, a large number of lawmakers, including some principal officers, are demanding details of the approved budget from the leadership of the national legislature.

It was further reported that the budget details are known only to a few members of the Appropriation Committees of both chambers headed by Alhaji Danjuma Goje for the Senate and Jibrin Adbulmumin for the Reps.

The report insinuates that the lawmakers are unhappy over not been allowed to see details of the budget because it was alleged that some legislators are more favoured than others in the affairs of the legislature.

This is coming following agitation in the Senate over a replacement for the Senate President Bukola Saraki, should his trial with the Code of Conduct Trial see him resigning his seat.

However, Senate Leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume denied the allegation that members were divided over the details of the budget saying all is well.

It should be noted that after a delay of about three months, the National Assembly on March 23 passed the 2016 budget of N6.06trillion, down from the N6.077billion proposed by the executive.
