APC might sanction Atiku, Tambuwal for supporting Assembly leaders

According to reports, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal might be sanctioned by the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the results of the recently held National Assembly elections.

The elections saw Senator Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara emerging as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives despite being expressly excluded by an APC mock poll.

According to an APC source, Atiku is suspected to have connived with Saraki to defy the party while Tambuwal reportedly supported Dogara.

The suspicions were somewhat confirmed when Saraki paid Atiku a courtesy visit after his victory. Tambuwal also lauded the election results after Dogara won.

“We started keeping tabs on Atiku in January when he showed that he was not interested in the success of President Muhammadu Buhari when Buhari was our presidential candidate. Our fears were reignited when the then President, Goodluck Jonathan, paid Atiku a visit shortly before the elections,” the source told Punch.

“Don’t you find it curious that the first person that Saraki visited after emerging as Senate President was Atiku? We have information that Atiku told his supporters in the Senate to vote for Saraki and that was what happened. We know that Atiku is still nursing a presidential ambition for 2019 and he is now beginning to build blocks,” the source added.

“Tambuwal is also nursing a presidential ambition and needs to retain control over the House. He will not be able to retain such influence if Gbajabiamila is the Speaker,”the source said.

The APC has said that it would sanction all members who were involved in the display of treachery.
