Makarfi-led PDP urges security agencies to ensure violence free poll

The party gave the advice in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, on Friday in Abuja.

The Chairman of the PDP caretaker committee - Ahmed Makarfi

Adeyeye said that the advice was important following an “open declaration of war’’ by the chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during its rally on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

Adeyeye quoted the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John-Odigie Oyegun of saying “If they push you, push them back.

“If they slap you, slap them back. As you can see, we came in full force; the whole federal might is here.”

He also quoted Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Umar Ganduje of saying, “If they shoot at you, take cover and shoot them back.”

Adeyeye said that such statement was sad and a complete reversal of all the democratic experience PDP built and nurtured in the last 16 years.

“We, therefore, call on the Nigerian Police and other relevant security agencies to be alert to their responsibilities and ensure that the elections on Saturday in Rivers State are free.

“They should not only ensure that the elections are not only free and fair but also very peaceful, orderly and without any violence,’’ Adeyeye said.

“Rivers State is the home of the PDP and we are sure of victory in all,’’ he said.

The party's image-maker also urged PDP members, teeming supporters and the electorate in Rivers to remain calm, come out and vote for all PDP candidates in the elections.
