PDP says Buhari’s decision is a welcome development

Buhari made his intention to seek re-election in 2019 known on Monday, April 9, 2018.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described President Buhari’s decision to run in 2019 as a welcome development.

Buhari made his intention to seek re-election in 2019 known on Monday, April 9, 2018.

According to the PDP, the President’s decision shows that God has answered its prayers for his downfall.

Daily Post reports that this was made known to newsmen by the party’s National Secretary, Sen. Umar Ibrahim Tsauri.

Buhari is a non-issue

The PDP also boasted that it is confident that Buhari will lose in 2019, adding that he is a non-issue.

The party also hoped that the President will be honourable enough to concede defeat if he loses the election.

It said “The President’s decision is a welcome development as far as we are concerned in the PDP because that means Buhari will personally witness his defeat and that of his APC.

“We are confident that he is already a loser, so, defeating him at the polls will be a non- issue.

“Our only concern is that he should be team player and gentleman enough to concede defeat at the appropriate time.

“He should be willing to surrender to us when he loses the election in 2019. We are so confident that whoever we eventually bring out to contest with him will defeat President Buhari.

“We are not afraid of his decision because election is like the game of football. The better side wins the match and the weaker side loses. The PDP is the better side in the circumstances and we will defeat Buhari or any other candidates for that matter.

“The election sequence does not matter to us, whether the presidential election comes first of last. We are going to support the position of the National Assembly on the matter. The most important thing for us is that Buhari is contesting and we are going to defeat him.”

Stock market reacts negatively

The Nigerian stock market experienced an epic drop following President Buhari’s announcement that he will be seeking re-election.

According to Reuters, “The stock market, which opened on a losing streak after Lafarge Africa announced a surprise 2017 loss, worsened its decline. The equity market fell near 40,000 points.”

Following Buhari’s announcement to seek re-election in 2019, former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili compared the President to a trespassing masquerade who doesn't know when to stop.

Ezekwesili also warned the president that Nigerians will vote him out in next year's election.
