Party to conduct one million-man march for Makarfi

Support groups under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are set to organize a one million-man march to show support for the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party.

Senator Ahmed Makarfi

The groups, 17 in number, reached the resolution after a meeting in Kaduna today, September 1, 2016, Vanguard reports.

“A joint meeting of our groups from all the six geo-political zones at a meeting and discussed and reviewed some socio-political issues in the country, especially issues that are of real and significant interest concern our great party, the PDP,” spokesman for the groups, Rilwanu Abdullahi said.

“The meeting also reflected on the recent press conference addressed by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s group which drew the anger of our groups and the entire membership of the party.

“We distance ourselves, our groups and most members of our party from the antics of this dissident group. We are therefore, planning a one million-man march soon, to show the popularity of Senator Ahmed Makarfi in the PDP and to force Sheriff to stop his pranks. We shall avail you details later," he added.

The groups also accused factional Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff of working with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to destroy the PDP.

The PDP has been rocked by a leadership crisis since members attempted to remove Sheriff from the position of chairman on May 21.
