Opposition party vows to reject elections conducted by ‘Buhari’s daughter’

Buhari appointed Zakari on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, after the expiration of former Chairman, Attahiru Jega’s tenure.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that it will reject any election conducted by the Acting Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Amina Zakari, whom it described as President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter.

Buhari appointed Zakari on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, after the expiration of former Chairman, Attahiru Jega’s tenure.

The PDP’s stance was disclosed on Thursday, July 16, by National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh during a courtesy visit to the National Democratic Institute and International Republican Institute in Abuja.

Metuh said:

“We have INEC and the idea is that people heading it should be above board, but the present ruling party has appointed the ‘daughter’ of the President to head the position.”

“There is nowhere in the world where such has happened, a person who has a relationship with the President. “I am drawing the attention of the IRI to this. Buhari has appointed his ‘daughter’ as INEC Chairman, we believe there will not be fairness.”

“It will be very difficult to accept any result of the election conducted by Amina Zakari. It will be difficult for PDP to accept result of election if we lose under Zakari.”

Zakari was first appointed as an INEC National Commissioner by former President, Goodluck Jonathan in 2010.
