Winners Vs Losers

The Ondo governorship election left us with some winners and losers. Take a quick look below

However, this election left us with some winners and losers.

Here's a quick rundown:

WINNERS

1. Rotimi Akeredolu (nickname: Aketi)

When the biggest political godfather in the South West goes against you and you still win big, you definitely deserve some respect.

Time to put some respeck on Aketi's name.

Aketi in one word? BOSS.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari

He's overseeing a faltering economy and having to deal with a disenchanted and depressed citizenry.

Ondo and Edo were supposed to be the referendum for the governing political party.

On the evidence of two State electoral successes on the bounce for his APC, Buhari can afford a smile and some massage again in the other room.

3. Saraki, Fashola, Fayemi, Okorocha

The quartet broke ranks with the Bourdillon arm of APC and funneled resources into an Aketi victory.

Senate President Bukola Saraki must have been relieved not to occupy the same podium with Bola Tinubu on the campaign trail in Ondo.

While it was convenient for Governors Ambode, Aregbesola and Ajimobi to shun Aketi's campaign rallies, Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha showed Aketi and the Ondo APC, ample support.

He was joined by Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Ministers Babatunde Fashola and Kayode Fayemi would normally have gone with Tinubu's boycott plans, but they stuck by their President's choice instead.

Good move. Winners.

4. Owo axis

Akeredolu hails from Owo and for some time now, that geopolitical zone in the South West State had felt left out of the power equation.

The Owo/Ose axis of the North hasn't produced a Governor since 1979.

Outgoing Governor Olusegun Mimiko hails from Ondo central.

The South produced Olusegun Agagu(Okitipupa) in 2003.

Adebayo Adefarati (elected Governor in 1999) was from Akoko, North of Ondo.

Owo was justified to have felt this was their chance to produce a Governor from their region of the State and they did.

Winners.

5. Jimoh Ibrahim

Ibrahim was overjoyed when his PDP lost.

He made sure to waste his party's time in court.

By the time the court ruled in Eyitayo Jegede's favour, the PDP was playing catch up.

And Ibrahim's chuckle could be heard from miles away.

LOSERS

1. Bola Tinubu

Oh well, where do we start from?

Asiwaju was unhappy after Aketi got the APC governorship ticket ahead of his preferred candidate, Olusegun Abraham.

Guess who was among the first set of persons to pen the Governor-elect a congratulatory note?

2. PDP

What a mess the PDP was, before, during and after the Ondo election.

The once governing party still can't resolve an internal crisis that has left it with two factional Chairmen, two factional candidates before the Ondo election and two factional candidates before the Edo election.

It's unfortunate that the biggest opposition party in the land still can't get its act together in 2016.

Epic fail.

3. Eyitayo Jegede

What was he expecting?

It's a miracle that Eyitayo still polled second after learning he was the substantive candidate, 48 hours before the first vote was cast in anger.

Like his PDP, Eyitayo prepared to fail. They got their wish.

4. Olusola Oke

Social media campaigns certainly don't win you elections all the time.

Godfathers hiding behind shadows don't guarantee you victory either.

Oke who recently defected from the PDP, mustered a decent fight to poll third and should be proud of his efforts and campaign.

But that campaign was founded on a false premise.

Loser.
