The Ondo State House of Assembly has impeached its speaker, Bamidele Oloyelogun and his deputy, Iroju Ogundeji.

The two leaders were sacked from their position on Friday, November 9, 2018 on allegations of "gross misconduct".

Sunday Olajide (APC - Akure Constituency 2), moved the motion for the impeachment, while another lawmaker, Oluyede Feyide (APC - Ose Constituency) seconded the motion.

Olamide George (Akure North) emerged as the speaker while Abimbola Fajolu  (Ile Oluji/Okeigbo constituency) was elected deputy.

Prior to their emergence, the plenary was out of order after Jumoke Akindele was temporarily picked as the acting Speaker of the Assembly.

According to the News Agency Of Nigeria, 18 lawmakers, out of the 26 members of the House, carried out the impeachment; while policemen were stationed around the premises to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
