The United States has congratulated Nigeria and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the successful conduct of the April 11 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

The US government extended its congratulations via a statement issued on Monday, April 13, 2015, saying that the elections “generally went well.”

“We have seen the reports of violence and alleged irregularities, particularly in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states, and call on those dissatisfied to pursue their grievances peacefully in the judicial arena,” the statement reads.

“We regret any loss of life and destruction of property,” it adds.

The US also based the success of Saturday’s elections on the peaceful conduct of the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
