Senate President, David Mark, has congratulated President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in Nigeria’s presidential elections.

Mark stated that Buhari’s emergence as winner of the polls was a reflection of the wishes of Nigerians who elected him.

Buhari was declared President-elect on Tuesday, March 31, after beating incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan by 2 million votes.

Mark extended his congratulations to Buhari via a statement released on Wednesday, April 1, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbodiyan.

The Senate President urged the President-elect to be magnanimous in victory by carrying all‎ Nigerians along in his plans for Nigeria.

Mark also praised President Jonathan for showing statesmanship by conceding defeat.

“President Jonathan has assumed a clear leadership in the comity of African nations where Heads of Government are perceived to be sit-tight leaders. He (President Jonathan) has set a classic acceptance of the aphorism that power belongs to God and He grants whoever He pleases. For this, history will be kind to him,” the Senate President said.

Jonathan also extended his congratulations to Buhari via a telephone call on Tuesday evening.
