A human rights group has petitioned the International Criminal Court (ICC) urging it to prosecute Buhari, for the 2011 post-election violence which claimed about 800 lives in Northern Nigeria.
The group has petitioned the International Criminal Court (ICC) urging it to prosecute Buhari, for the 2011 post-election violence which claimed about 800 lives in Northern Nigeria.
Buhari is being blamed for the violence due to beliefs that majority of the rioters were his supporters who were against the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The ICC has reportedly been investigating probable war crimes in Nigeria since 2010. However, the APC has said that the NCDJ’s move is political.
“They will not stop at anything to try to derail Buhari,” the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed said. “I can see the hands of the government behind it,” he added.
Buhari was nominated to represent the APC at the 2015 elections after the party’s presidential primaries which held from December 10-11.
