US First Lady not coming for Buhari inauguration despite rumours

Despite recent rumours, US First Lady, Michelle Obama will not be attending the inauguration of Nigeria’s President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.

President Barack Obama will not attend the event either but is sending a delegation to be there in his place.

It was earlier rumoured that the First Lady would be part of the delegation but the White House has said that she won’t be in attendance.

“The First Lady will not be traveling to Nigeria,”Caroline Adler, communications director in the Mrs Obama’s office, said on Thursday, May 7, 2015.

Senior White House officials who could be chosen to attend the inauguration, which will hold on Friday, May 29, 2015, include Vice President, Joe Biden and Secretary of State, John Kerry.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to the US, Ade Adefuye confirmed that an “unusually large American delegation” would attend the event.
