APC Lawyer killed in suspected assassination

Atsuwete was reportedly murdered at his home in the Aluu area of the state on Sunday, August 28, 2016 by unknown gunmen.

The circumstances surrounding his death suggest that he was assassinated but this is yet to be confirmed by the police.

Atsuwete had a legal relationship with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State and, before his death, defended some members of the party.

The late lawyer defended Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, an ally of former Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, when he was facing charges for the alleged murder of one Smart Soberekon.

Atsuwete had, in July 2016, accused the current Rivers government of plotting to kill Ojukaye.
