Lawmaker says 8th Assembly has passed 28 resolutions

Yusuff (APC-Alimosho I) of the Lagos State House of Assembly disclosed this at his constituency stakeholders' meeting held at Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Secretariat.

He said, "We have in the course of our legislative duties passed 28 resolutions and settled communal clashes.

“Today is not a day of dancing and laughing. but a day of reflection on the challenges facing us with the aim of finding a lasting solution to them.

"Our aim is to harness all issues that would inform the year 2016 budget and discussing the progress and the challenges of our constituency.

"The decision to reach out to our constituents and other groups is borne out of our desire to deepen the democratic culture as well as facilitate participatory governance in the state."

He said that people had been put first his legislative duty and promised that he could not afford to forget or fail the electorate.

Yusuf urged the youths to generate ideas that could help overcome their challenges and called for collaboration of stakeholders in developing the state.

Meanwhile, stakeholders at the forum appealed to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode to revisit the proposed plan for Alimosho Business District for the development of the area.

Some residents also complained of the poor road network and asked for construction of a flyover to ease traffic congestion in the area.

Mr Olufemi Ojo, the Chairman, Community Development Association (CDA) of Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area, said that most roads in the constituency were dilapidated.

He said that repair of the roads would ease the perpetual traffic in the area.

Ojo also urged the lawmaker to use his office to improve the operations of the fire service in the state.

Alhaji Mojeed Alayande, a market leader in the LCDA, also called for upgrade of markets in the area.

"Most markets do not have roads leading to them and those that have are in bad shape because of neglect.

"We have written to the local government to look into them but they keep procrastinating," he said.

Alayande urged politicians not to neglect the people after being voted into power.

Mr Oshungboye Obafemi, spokesman for Alimosho Youth Council also said youths had been neglected in government and were not carried along.

Obafemi urged the lawmaker to ensure membership of youths in the security committee and CDA committee, among others.

Mr Omidji Adebayo, Assistant Secretary of the Lagos State Committee for Defence of Human Right urged the government to domesticate the Freedom of Information (FOI).

Adebayo also called for creation of Human Right Desks in all council areas to check the excesses in the enforcement of the environment sanitation laws.

Earlier in her welcome address, Mrs Opeyemi Akindele, the Executive Secretary of Mosan Okunola LCDA urged residents to support the lawmaker in his effort to deliver dividends of democracy.

NAN reports that Mrs Oduntan Omotayo, member representing Alimosho Constituency 11 in Lagos State House of Assembly, also met with her constituents.

Residents also called for government intervention in several areas to make their lives better.

A resident of Igando-Ikotun, Mr Mutui Babajide, pleaded with the lawmaker to ensure bad roads were reconstructed.

"The people in this area are really suffering, government can at least do a palliative measure on the roads to ease traffic," Babajide said.

Also at the meeting, the ACP Joseph Eribo of Area `F’, called on government to consider community policing.

"We are in the era where community policing is essential; if this is looked into crime rate will reduce," he said.

Eribo called on the support of residents urging them to ensure they give information to the police for effective service delivery
