The speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Momoh Lawal, has been impeached, alongside his  deputy, Kolawole Matthew and the majority leader, Alih Ajuh.

Five members out 25 removed Lawal and the rest on Tuesday, February 16. They also elected Umar Imam as the new Speaker.

Lawal and his deputy had on December 17, 2015, been impeached by 17 members after they were accused to being incompetent. But the installation of initial new speaker, Godwin Osiyi, suffered setback.

The newly sworn-in Governor of the state, Yahaya Bello earlier sacked all Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Administration and Finance and all the Directors of Local Governments in the 21 council areas of the state.
