The Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Ahmad Mahmud, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mahmud’s defection was announced by his media aide, Ahmed Gumel on Monday, April 6, 2015.

Gumel confirmed that the Deputy Governor would be welcomed into the APC at his Galagamma Ward in the Gumel Local Government Area of the state.

The PDP however issued a statement saying that Mahmud had been expelled from the party for engaging in anti-party activities.

The Deputy Governor was also accused of voting for the APC and jeopardizing the efforts of the PDP during the March 28 elections.

Other Deputy Governors who have defected from their parties in recent times include Tele Ikuru of Rivers State, who left the APC for the PDP, and Ali Olanusi of Ondo State who left the PDP for the APC.
