Governor accused of making moves to influence appeal court's judgement

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has been accused of making fresh plans to dubiously influence the judgement of the Court of Appeal, which is presently looking into reports of election rigging in the state.

It was gathered that a previous panel of justices was sacked by the President of the Court of Appeal after discovering that they were under the influence of Governor Okowa.

According to recent reports, the governor is allegedly making fresh moves to influence the new panel of justices, even after the court was moved from Benin City to Abuja.

A source in the Delta State capital, Asaba, revealed to that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa ordered the withdrawal of over N530 million naira from Delta State’s coffers in Zenith Bank and EcoBank. The large sum would be reportedly used to settle the Court of Appeal justices.

A lawyer also revealed to SaharaReporters that the case was going against the Delta State governor.

Before the gubernatorial election In April, it was reported that an unknown person stole several sensitive electoral materials in Delta State two weeks before the election. With this, the political parties petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and refused to accept the result of the election.

The court of Appeal is expected to deliver its judgement today, 24th December but with the public holiday, the delivery of the judgement may be shifted to a later date.
