According to reports, a major setback is being faced by President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign organization as the arm responsible for civil society mobilization is being plagued by a corruption scandal.

The trouble in the committee began as a result of the leadership style of its chairman, Nick Eze, Premium Times reports.

Eze has been accused of embezzlement and misappropriation of funds and his actions are said to be sabotaging the entire campaign.

“As far as the presidential campaign organization is concerned, the Civil Society committee is a fraud. Professor Nick has abandoned his office and is now running the committee from his bedroom,” a member of the committee told Premium Times.

“On one occasion, he called a meeting and we asked for accounts, he insulted us and said that he is a personal friend of the president and only reports to him directly. We are just committee members on paper,” another member said.

The committee is said to be dormant and failing in its duties to mobilize voters for Jonathan due to the actions of its chairman.

Eze is also said to have bought himself a bulletproof Prado SUV after receiving the campaign funds.

The committee chairman however dismissed the accusations saying that they’re “unfounded” and coming from “jobless people” who were being sponsored by the opposition.

No official response on the issue has been given by the spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign organization.
