Nigeria’s former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is 58-years-old today, November 20, 2015.

Jonathan was born on November 20, 1957 to a family of canoe makers in Bayelsa State.

He became governor of the state in 2005 and ruled till 2007 after which he became Vice President during the tenure of late President, Umaru Musa Yar’adua.
In 2010, after Yar’adua’s death, Jonathan became the president and was subsequently elected into the position in 2011.
Jonathan vacated the office in May 2015 after being defeated by incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari in the March 28 elections.
The former president earned widespread accolade after conceding defeat to Buhari, thus preventing Nigeria from erupting into massive waves of electoral violence which many around the world had predicted would occur.
He was recently chosen to head a Commonwealth observer mission for the Tanzania elections and was also called upon to intervene in Zanzibar’s political stalemate.
