What does Ayo Fayose want?

Fayose cannot run for another term as governor, and he has said that he has no interest in contesting for Nigeria’s presidency, so what exactly does he want?

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state.

Fayose has kept Nigerians entertained and amused with his antics and doesn’t seem ready to stop.

The governor has been pictured slicing fish, cutting “ponmo”, drinking palm wine, riding on an “okada” and driving a truck.

More amusing than these however are his attempts to teach President Muhammadu Buhari how to govern Nigeria.

Fayose has been scathingly critical of Buhari since the presidential campaign period and has said that he has no intention of stopping the criticism.

“For everything I say, I say it in good conscience. When I was criticising the President before he became President of Nigeria, they thought I will be quiet after. Tomorrow, if I find him wanting, I will tell him. The President is not God, he’s only leader of our country for a period of time,” the governor said on Friday, November 13, 2015.

“I will remain critical of the activities of the Federal Government, especially when they do things that are inimical to the welfare of Nigerians,” Fayose said repeating the sentiment in March 2016.

Fayose has also described the Buhari administration as a “one chance bus”, accused the president of lying about a recent vacation and said that Buhari lacks the mental capacity to govern Nigeria.

Most recently however, the governor embarrassed himself by writing a letter to the Chinese government urging them not grant Nigeria a loan which Buhari travelled to China to secure.

“I write as one of the major stakeholders in the project Nigeria, and a governor of one of the federating units making up Nigeria, to draw your attention to report that the Federal Government of Nigeria is on the verge of obtaining a $2 billion loan from the Export-Import Bank of China,” Fayose wrote in the letter dated April 12.

“While conceding that all nations, especially developing ones need support to be able to grow because no nation is an island, I am constrained to inform you that if the future of Nigeria must be protected, the country does not need any loan at this time,” he added.

“The Chinese government must also be aware that some western nations approached by the Federal Government for loan diplomatically and cleverly declined. This must have been informed by the suspicion in the present government’s capacity to salvage the nation’s economy as well as the sincerity in the fight against corruption,” he added.

Fayose’s attempt to stop the loan facility through a letter is laughable and it’s amazing that the governor can’t see how silly this action makes him look.

It appears that Fayose has been masquerading as a crusader for so long that he has started to believe that he truly is one. Unfortunately, the only people who are fooled by this charade are the governor and his sycophants.

The Ekiti State Governor obviously intends to gain something from this endless search for publicity and he needs to let us know what that is.
