Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has said that fielding former President, Goodluck Jonathan as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2015 elections was not a mistake.

Fani-Kayode made the remark in response to a comment by PDP chieftain, Raymond Dokpesi that Jonathan’s candidacy caused the party’s downfall.

“It was not a mistake for PDP to field Jonathan in the last election and neither is an apology for doing so appropriate or necessary,” the former minister said via Twitter on Wednesday, November 11.

Dokpesi had also apologized on behalf of the PDP for mistakes made by the party in the past.

“For every and any mistake we have made, I therefore say, we tender our unreserved apologies,” the PDP chieftain said.

Jonathan lost the Presidency to Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2015 elections therefore robbing the PDP of its 16-year ruling party status.

Meanwhile, the PDP is said to be in crisis over the zoning of the 2019 presidential ticket to the North.

The move is said to have angered some of Jonathan’s loyalists who want him to again be fielded as the party’s candidate in the next general elections.
