Ebonyi Governor denies accepting Boko Haram prisoners

The news that Boko Haram suspects were brought to Abakaliki prisons is false. This rumour is capable of disintegrating the state and people should be careful of the type of information they peddle.

The Governor of Ebonyi state, Dave Umahi, has denied rumours making the rounds, that he accepted that the 47Boko Haram prisoners, be moved from Anambra state, to his state.

Following the relocation of the terrorists from Ekwulobia prison, in Anambra state, news spread all over Ebony state, that they were being relocated to a prison in the state.

Vanguard Newspapers reports that Governor Umahi said “The news that Boko Haram suspects were brought to Abakaliki prisons is false. This rumour is capable of disintegrating the state and people should be careful of the type of information they peddle.

"Moreover, the prison space and capacity are not there in the state. There is no such thing. Ebonyians should relegate such rumour to the background and go about their lawful businesses.”

Also commenting on the matter, the Public Relations Officer of Abakaliki prisons, Mr. Frank, said “My brother, I am not aware of Boko Haram suspects being brought to the prisons. If they are on their way, I don’t know.”
