‘President won’t be petroleum minister,' Femi Adesina says

Adesina said that the president will instead supervise the sector and that he is fully capable of doing so.

According to the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the president will not officially occupy the position of Petroleum Minister.

The presidential aide made the comments via Twitter on Monday, October 12, 2015.

“President Buhari is not going to be designated as Minister but will supervise the Ministry...he has all it takes to supervise the ministry,” Adesina tweeted.

“President Buhari would respect the constitution. And the constitution says Ministers must be appointed from each state,” he added.

The president had earlier said that he would take charge of Nigeria's petroleum sectorin a bid to rid it of corruption.

Buhari presented his ministerial list to the Senate on Wednesday, September 30, 2015.

The 21 names on the list were however not revealed by the legislative chamber until its plenary session on Tuesday, October 6.

The president is expected to send a subsequent list of nominees to the Senate this week.
