President not ready to stop being ‘Baba Go Slow’

Buhari also urged Nigerians to exercise patience and allow the new administration “put some sense into governance and deal with corruption.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he will continue to go slow and steady in bringing change to the country despite being nicknamed ‘Baba Go Slow.'

The President made the comments on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, while speaking to young Nigerians in Washington DC, US.

According to a statement released by his media aide, Garba Shehu, when Buhari was asked when he would form his cabinet, he observed jokingly that the question was chasing him around the world even to the point that at home he had been nicknamed, “Baba Go Slow!”

“I am going to go slow and steady,” Buhari said, as he called for patience to allow the new administration “put some sense into governance and deal with corruption.”

Buhari has been severely criticized for his delay in appointing ministers and was described as ‘Baba Go Slow’ in an article published on Bloomberg on July 1.

The president has however said that he will not be appointing ministers until September.
