The Nigerian Senate has cleared Dr Amina Mohammed to serve as a minister from Gombe State and not Kaduna State.

Mohammed’s nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari caused controversy after Senators from Kaduna insisted she did not come from the state.

She appeared before the Senate Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions committee on Monday, October 12, 2015 to defend herself.

“I am assuming that I will be representing Gombe state because I am not from Kaduna state. My father is from Gombe state and I was born in Gombe state. I was only educated in Kaduna state,” Mohammed told the committee.

She was among 21 nominees presented to the Senate on a list submitted by Buhari on September 30.
