Governor challenges Agbaje to produce tax receipt

Fashola had earlier accused Agbaje of defaulting on his taxes while urging Lagosians not to vote in a tax evader as governor.

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has asked the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jimi Agbaje to produce a receipt showing that he has indeed paid the land use charge for his pharmacy.

Fashola had earlier accused Agbaje of defaulting on his taxes while urging Lagosians not to vote in a tax evader as governor.

Agbaje however responded to the allegation saying that he had received a letter of commendation for paying said tax and that the governor was being contradictory.

Fashola in return, during an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Epe on Thursday, January 29, challenged Agbaje to produce evidence of payment of the N1.6 million tax.

“It is not that I hate him (Agbaje). But this is not a personal issue. This is an issue that concerns the development of Lagos State. I am saying this without mincing words. His pharmacy has not paid land Use Charge for year 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012; it amounts to N1, 629, 064.62. But they have paid for 2013 and 2014,” Fashola said.

“I didn’t say you did not pay two years Land Use Charge, LUC you did. But you have four years unpaid LUC. If you have paid all your LUC, please publish your receipt,” the governor added.

Fashola had earlier said that Agbaje was too old to rule Lagos and could not perform the job effectively.
