Convener lauds 2016 presidential bill, says it's the best ever

Chief Ayo Opadokun, while speaking with newsmen at the thirteenth (13th) edition of the Ayo Opadokun’s Christmas Carol in Offa, Kwara State, has asserted that the said budget is among other laudable things, pro-masses‎.

Ayo Opadokun

The Former scribe of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) and Convener of the Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms (CODER) Chief Ayo Opadokun, while commenting on the 2016 budget recently presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, described the 2016 presidential budget as the best ever in the history of Nigeria.

To him, with the allocation of a large percentage of the budget to capital expenditure, Nigeria is indeed moving towards real change, all round transformation, growth and development.

Opadokun added that since the discovery of Nigeria as a country, the nation has never distributed such a huge proportion of resources to infrastructural development.

According to him, President Buhari’s budget provides careful and adequate attention to all sectors of the economy and technically represents the wider interests, aspirations and joint wishes of all Nigerians.

Although, people like Chief Femi Fani Kayode have criticized the budget, as recalled, the former aviation minister was of the opinion that the 2016 budget is fuelled by insincerity, shrouded in fantasy, built on tall dreams and spawned by deceit, ignorance and the illusion of change. It is bloated, unrealistic, expensive, cosmetic and it will not result in anything good.

Quoting him further, “In order to fund part of the budget the government intends to borrow money and this will throw our country into even greater debt. What a tragedy this is given the fact that in 2007 Nigeria was debt-free. The Buhari administration is spending money like a drunken sailor and they are borrowing as if there is no tomorrow, mortgaging the future of our nation and our children.

”We need far more fiscal discipline and seriousness than that if our government really wishes to improve the economy and better the lives of ordinary people."
