Governor begs Buhari to save him from impeachment

The renewed impeachment plot has caused tensions to rise in the state with Fayose’s supporters erecting blockades to prevent the lawmakers from gaining access to the State House of Assembly complex.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in fresh attempts to impeach him by the 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in the state.

In response to the plot, the governor made a broadcast on Monday, June 1, 2015 urging the people of the state to defend the mandate they had given him.

“They have been dropping the name of President Buhari as giving them the backing to impeach me. How can an Assembly, whose tenure will wind up on Thursday be planning this? I am calling on well-meaning Nigerians, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmoud Mohammed, and President Buhari to intervene in this matter," Fayose said.

"How can somebody be living in another state and be planning to invade his own state; this is something else and I view this as a major crime anyone can commit against his people,” Fayose added.

Fayose also stated that the legislators had been paid their salaries and entitlements despite series of denials made by them.

He further urged the people of the state to keep their eyes on the lawmakers and prevent them from carrying out the impeachment plot.
