Former Nigeria Vice President Atiku Abubakar has finally told everyone who cares to listen, that he is running for the office of president of Nigeria come 2019.

Atiku officially flagged of his presidential campaign at the banquet hall of the Rivers State Governor's Office, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, March 27, 2018

The event was chaired by Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike and had in attendance former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; former Governor of Enugu State and one-time national Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo.

Other attendees were Deputy Majority Leader of the Senate, Senator Abdul Ningi; Senator Lee Ledogo Maeba; former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, Michael Aondoakaa; among other PDP chieftains.

New Nigeria

Daily Trust reports that Atiku reiterated his commitment toward the creation of a new Nigeria devoid of favouritism, segregation and ethnicity at his presidential campaign flag off.

Atiku added that Nigeria on his watch will be built on industrialization and economic revolution.

Atiku dumped the APC on November 24, 2017.

On December 3, 2017, Atiku predictably announced his return to the PDP.

Atiku who has a history of switching political camps, has never hidden his desire to become Nigeria’s number one citizen someday.

He first set up a presidential campaign in 1993 on the platform of the SDP, but didn't make it out of the primaries.

'Dying party'

Atiku called the APC a “dying party” when he dumped them.

“A party that does not take the youth into account is a dying party. The future belongs to young people.

“While other parties have purged themselves of the arbitrariness and unconstitutionality that led to fractionalization, the All Progressives Congress has adopted those same practices and even gone beyond them to institute a regime of a draconian clampdown on all forms of democracy within the party and the government it produced”, Atiku had said at the time.
