‘We didn’t fund our campaigns with corrupt funds,’ Party replies PDP

The APC made the remark after Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman, Olisa Metuh urged President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the ruling party’s campaign spendings.

Chief John Odigie Oyegun-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that it didn’t fund its 2015 election campaigns with corrupt funds.

The APC made the remark after Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman, Olisa Metuh urged President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the ruling party’s campaign spendings.

The clarification was made by the National Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni in a statement on Monday, December 15.

It reads in part:

“The PDP knew that the APC fought and won its electoral battle basically on the goodwill of the masses. We did not fund our campaign with slush or corrupt funds; we challenge the opposition to provide evidence to the contrary.”

“The 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act have provided guidelines on campaign funds. We are ready to account for every kobo spent any time we are requested to do so.”

“We are a party noted for managing scarce resources; we are not a wasteful party like the PDP. The APC governors were not compelled to finance our presidential campaign under any guise. And no one has been made a minister in this government to cover up slush funds used for President Buhari’s campaign.”

Buni also said that Buhari would fast track the prosecution of corrupt officials in order to recover funds looted from Nigeria.
