Governor mourns Emir of Borgu, ex-state assembly member

Al-Makura said the people should, however, have consolation that the deceased, as a former member of the state assembly, left a legacy for which he would be remembered.

 

Gov. Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State has described the sudden death of Alhaji Haliru Dantoro, Kitoro III, the Emir of Borgu, as a big loss, not only to the people of his emirate but also to Niger State and the nation as a whole.

According to Al-makura, the late emir showed love to people who live in his domain, irrespective of their tribe, religious inclination.

He also described the deceased as a ``godly man, who has the interest of his subjects at heart above any other thing”.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by Alhaji Ahmed Tukur, the Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Al-makura , said he was deeply touched when he received the news of the death of the emir.

“His death is a huge loss not only to Borgu kingdom, but also to Niger State and the nation as a whole,’’ it said.

The statement said that he dedicated most of his time to preaching peace and unity in the country.

"The late monarch lived exemplary life worthy of emulation; his forgiving spirit was exceptional.

"I pray God almighty to grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.’’ The governor said in the statement.

Similarly, the statement condoled with the families of Alhaji Umar Rumfa and the entire people of Awe Local Government Area over the demise of their son, the late Alhaji Haladu Umar (Santurakin Azara), who died in his sleep on Monday.

It said that the death of Rumfa was a monumental loss to the family, state and most especially to the people of Awe local government, where he came from.

According to the statement, the deceased contributed his quota to the development of the state.
