‘She’ll still defeat Ishaku at Appeal Court,’ Taraba APC says

The Taraba State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, on Saturday, November 7, 2015, ruled that Alhassan was the rightful winner of the April 11 election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has said that Senator Aisha Alhassan will still defeat incumbent Governor, Darius Ishaku despite the latter taking his case to the Court of Appeal.

The Taraba State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, on Saturday, November 7, 2015, ruled that Alhassan was the rightful winner of the April 11 election.

The Taraba APC’s comments were made by state Chairman, Alhaji Hassan Jika Ardo on Sunday, November 15, during an interview with journalists in Jalingo, the state capital.

“Already, the tribunal has ordered him to vacate office on the ground that he was not sponsored by PDP or any other political party. If he wants respect from Tarabans, let him accept defeat and allow Senator Aisha to take her office,” Ardo said, according to Leadership.

“Every Taraban knows that Ishaku was not qualified to contest, the PDP never conducted primary anywhere, and that was why the INEC appeared and testified before the tribunal,” he added.

Ardo also reportedly said that Governor Ishaku would continue to lose even if he ‘goes to court millions of times’.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had, on April 13, declared the governorship election in Taraba inconclusive.

Ishaku was however declared winner after a re-run was held on April 25.
